From Knoxville to the Nation: Celebrating Our Fellow Drops Collaboration
When we started roasting coffee in Knoxville, Tennessee, the vision was simple: source great coffee, roast it with excellence, and share it with people who care about quality. What we didn’t fully know at the time was just how far that mission could travel.
Recently, that vision reached a new milestone through our collaboration with Fellow Drops, and it’s something worth celebrating.
A National Spotlight on K Brew
Fellow Drops is known for highlighting some of the most exciting coffees in the country, curating limited releases and sending them directly to coffee enthusiasts nationwide. Being selected isn’t just about having good coffee. It’s about having a story, a process, and a product that stands out in a crowded specialty coffee landscape.
For this collaboration, we created and featured our Scruffy City Darker Blend, a coffee that represents both our roots and our approach to roasting. It’s bold, balanced, and approachable, designed for people who want depth without bitterness.
The response exceeded expectations.
We shipped over 540 bags across the country, reaching homes, kitchens, and brew bars from coast to coast. For a Knoxville-based roaster, it’s validation that we’re doing it right.
Why This Coffee Resonated
Dark roast coffee often gets a bad reputation in specialty coffee circles. Too often, it’s associated with over-roasting, bitterness, or a lack of nuance. But that’s not how we approach it.
With Scruffy City Darker Blend, we focused on:
- Controlled roast development to preserve sweetness
- Balanced body and structure without harshness
- Consistency across brew methods, from pour-over to drip
The result is a coffee that feels familiar, yet elevated. It’s a darker roast that still reflects the quality of the beans and the precision of the roast.
Fellow highlighted this in their feature, even including a recommended brew recipe that showcases how the coffee performs in a manual brewing setup. If you want to explore their full breakdown, you can check it out here.
The Power of Community
One of the most rewarding parts of this collaboration was the people who got to taste K Brew.
We saw shoutouts from customers, coffee enthusiasts, and even recognizable names like George Bryan IV (@georgebryaniv), who shared the experience with his audience. Moments like that matter, because they reflect something deeper: people genuinely enjoying what we’ve created.
In specialty coffee, word of mouth is everything. When someone takes the time to share your product, it means the experience resonated.
What This Means for Specialty Coffee
This collaboration is part of a larger trend in the coffee industry: the continued growth of direct-to-consumer specialty coffee and curated drops.
Platforms like Fellow Drops are changing how people discover coffee. Instead of walking into a shop and choosing from a shelf, customers are being introduced to roasters from all over the country, each with a unique style and perspective.
For roasters like us, it creates an opportunity to reach new audiences beyond our local market, showcase specific coffees in a focused way, and tell the story behind the roast and the process.
And for customers, it means access to a rotating lineup of high-quality coffee without needing to research dozens of roasters.
From Local Roots to National Reach
Knoxville will always be home. It’s where K Brew was built, where our cafes operate, and where we’ve developed our approach to coffee.
But collaborations like this show that great coffee isn’t limited by geography.
Shipping 540+ bags across the country represents hundreds of new first impressions and agrowing awareness of what K Brew stands for.
It also reinforces something we’ve believed from the beginning: if you focus on quality, consistency, and experience, the reach will take care of itself.
What’s Next
We’re continuing to refine our roasting, expand our offerings, and look for opportunities to collaborate with partners who share our standards. Whether it’s another national drop, a new blend, or a seasonal release, the goal stays the same: deliver coffee that people actually want to drink every day.
And if this collaboration showed us anything, it’s that there’s a strong demand for coffees that balance approachability and quality, especially in categories like darker roasts that are often overlooked in specialty coffee.
