Belltown

Belltown is one of the most ambitious things happening in Knox County right now, and it is happening in Powell. This is a master planned community built around more than 40 acres of public park, with recreation fields, a playground, a dog park, a kayak area, a food truck park, an amphitheater, and walking trails at its center. The housing wraps around all of it and covers just about every stage of life: estate lots on half acre parcels, single family homes, neo traditional homes with rear entry garages, condominiums with the primary bedroom on the main floor for residents 55 and older, townhomes, and luxury apartments. At the heart sits Belltown Commons, a walkable town center designed to feel like an old downtown where you park once and spend the afternoon. Our neighbors here include Soccer Taco, Abridged Beer Company, Sugar Queen, Belltown Nail Bar, and a Covenant Health clinic. Knox County has even considered a pedestrian beverage zone for the Commons, which tells you what kind of gathering place this is.

Powell has a long history of being a crossroads. The area started as farmland in Beaver Valley, settled in the late 1780s, and its post office opened in 1860 under the name Tunnell Hill. When the railroad reached the community that same year, everything changed; the depot became the center of commerce, and by 1867 the post office had been renamed Powell’s Station. It became simply Powell in 1949. Belltown continues that story. The planning commission approved the project in December 2022, county commission followed in January 2023, ground broke that May, and the first residents closed on their homes in February 2024. Phase three is underway now, and road improvements along Emory Road are keeping pace with the growth.

Once you have your coffee, the park is right there. Walk the trails, take the dog, let the kids run at the playground, or catch whatever is happening at the amphitheater.
